The Faculty
The Faculty of Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw is one of the largest academic centres in the country developing Polish, Slavonic, Hellenistic, Latin and Baltic studies in the fields of literature, culture and language.
The mission of the Faculty of Polish Studies is to develop knowledge of Polish literature, culture and language, including Europe’s multicultural tradition and history, as well as knowledge of foreign cultures and languages, in particular of Slavic countries and Lithuania and Latvia. An important element of education is also the teaching of speech therapy and the education of foreigners in Polish language and culture. Related to this mission is the concept of education. The studies conducted at the Faculty – although multidisciplinary and taught in various forms at different qualification levels – focus on linguistic, literary and cultural studies; they equip graduates with specialised research, linguistic, editorial, writing, comparative, translation and media competences, as well as the ability to conduct intercultural dialogue. The Faculty of Polish Studies aims to educate personnel for governmental, self-governmental, educational and non-governmental institutions, publishing houses, the media in the broad sense of the term as well as centres operating in the sphere of intercultural cooperation.
