18. Books in Action: Learn Polish, It’s Easy!

We are also engaged in teaching Polish as a foreign language and create teaching aids for foreign learners and their teachers. We organize training sessions and workshops, publish didactic and methodological materials (on paper and on the Internet), develop educational applications and organise Polish Language Festivals.

 

After February 2022, the “Polonicum” Centre has prepared a series of free audiovisual methodological guides titled Dobre rady dla lektorek i lektorów (Good Advice for Teachers of Polish as a Foreign Language).

The “Polonicum” also prepares materials for learners of Polish. These include a series of films titled Polski z Anią (Polish with Aniawith A. Rabczuk, with its third season  currently being broadcast on YouTube. Through these recordings, one learns grammar, new phrases and idioms, based on practical usage in real-life interactions. Foreigners learning Polish can also benefit from recordings produced as part of the four editions of the festival titled Festiwal Języka Polskiego w Gruzji ĄĘ (ĄĘ – Festival of the Polish Language in Georgia), which is organized by the “Polonicum”.

Among the successful actions undertaken at the Faculty of Polish Studies in teaching Polish as a foreign language, one also counts the project titled Studiuj po polsku! Badaj po polsku! – język polski do celów akademickich dla studentów i młodych naukowców z ukraińskich uczelni wyższych (Study in Polish! Research in Polish!Polish Language for Academic Purposes for Students and Young Researchers from Ukrainian Universities).

The research and implementation project titled Nauka języka polskiego dla cudzoziemców w perspektywie cywilizacji europejskiej oraz historii i współczesności Warszawy (Teaching Polish to Foreigners in the Perspective of European Civilization as well as the Past and Present of Warsaw) is also related to teaching Polish as a foreign language. One of its fruits is the development of the application titled Graj w polski (Play Polish).

Literature plays a significant role in glottodidactics. The importance of literary works in teaching Polish is demonstated in the monograph titled Literackie obrazy kultury. Perspektywa glottodydaktyczna (Literary Images of Culture: A Glottodidactic Perspective), edited by J. Zych.
